Happy New Year. Here is what we were up to in 2025.
On January 21, we celebrated Liane’s mother Mickey’s 98 birthday. She continues in very good health.
In February, Liane crossed off an item from her bucket list, sleeping on a train. We traveled from Mumbai, India to Delhi over seven days on a luxury train. On our way to India, we stopped for a few days to visit with our "third daughter," Yaling, in Tokyo. It was wonderful to see her for the first time since 2013 and to meet her husband, Daniel. Check out some of our photos.
There was very little background acting for me after all the TV shows being produced in Hawaii got cancelled. I did get a few days of work on the live action version of Lilo & Stitch.
In April, I did my third Maui Marathon. I was able to see a fair amount of construction going on as residential areas of Lahaina continue their long recovery.
May brought a reunion in Denver with my Mineola High School buddies, Dave Cohen and Al Gramet. I got to see Mark and Jeri Berland who also live in Denver. Thanks, Noreen, for putting up with our foolishness.
I visited with my brother Joel in Florida in August with a stop in Los Angeles to go to Disney's California Adventure with our younger daughter, Lauren.
In early September, I went to Walnut Creek, CA for a week of biking with the group I cycle with on Saturdays here at home. We have a connection there who mapped out different routes for us each day. Cycling across the Golden Gate Bridge, both ways, was a highlight.
September found us hosting Dennis and Carol Huebner for a week before the four of us took off for Bangkok. After a few days there, we were joined by Amy Martin, Laura Rees, and Phoebe Robinson for a cruise from Thailand to Malaysia to Singapore to Indonesia, ending up in Bali. Singapore is amazing. A fascinating, historical, and beautiful part of the world.
Here at home, Liane remains very busy with her Hawaiian featherwork. Teaching several cohorts of students, creating leis on commission, and representing this ancient art at a cultural center in Waikiki. Most recently, she was central to a team that made two new kahili for Mauna Ala, the Royal Mausoleum where several late monarchs of the Kingdom of Hawaii are buried. Kim is following in Mom’s footsteps, making leis whenever her children will give her a break.
Speaking of grandchildren: Kaia will be 4 in March and in January Serena joined the family. Kaia is taking swimming lessons, playing soccer, and recently started hula. Both are healthy, active, and generally wonderful. Lots of photos on our Photos page.
Liane does a lot of babysitting of Serena so that Kim, who works remotely, can get something done. I take Kaia to preschool every day and babysit when Liane is at the feather shop or otherwise unavailable.
And, I am very busy with two major commitments. I am soon ending my two year term as Secretary of the board of the Mid-Pacific Road Runners Club. I am also a Race Director. It is very satisfying, working with many other volunteers, to put on races where hundreds of runners can compete and enjoy the beauty of Hawaii.
The other thing that keeps me going is volunteering with the Red Cross. I am a member of the Disaster Action Team (DAT). We respond, 24/7/365, to small disasters, mainly home and apartment fires, but also to the occasional flood. Our job is to provide comfort and care to people who often have lost everything and are having the worst day of their lives. This year I became a Duty Officer. Every 5 weeks, instead of going to the fire, I am the one dispatching my fellow volunteers. I am also now the Oahu DAT Team Coordinator, working to improve the operation of the team and facilitating the onboarding of new team members.
Two weeks ago I completed my 19th Honolulu Marathon and 31st overall.
Liane and I are very fortunate to be healthy and able to continue all our activities, enjoy our family, and travel.
We hope that you are also doing well and wish you a Happy and Healthy 2026.
Love and aloha,
Steve and Liane
